I have been really busy with running events as part of the Dark Sky Festival over the past couple of weeks and I have to be honest I didn't even know that snow was forecast. Not like me as I usually know exactly what the weather is going to do. Last night I was delivering an event at Castle Howard and then was trying to make a decision if I should head to the coast or not as the Aurora was out. Sadly we were covered in cloud by the time the evening finished so it made the decision easy.
Imagine my surprise then this morning when I work up to a blizzard and thick snow. Thankfully the mornings are getting much lighter now, so I was able to quickly grab the camera and have a hour in the fog and snow before work. I have taken this shot many times but have never had still foggy conditions with fresh snow on the ground. I always thought it would make a decent image although the only way I can get it to work is by making the composition black and white followed by some editing to get the colour right.
As ever it pays to be totally prepared for your landscape, seascape and dark sky images. I wasn't this morning but thankfully local knowledge came to my assistance and everything wasn't lost.
