Weekend Photography Workshops 2022
Since launching the weekend workshops back in 2018, they have become a firm favourite clients and it is easy to see why. They provide you with an ideal opportunity to have a short break in some of the most beautiful countryside in the UK, learning new photography skills and forging lasting friendships. With all workshops limited to 4 clients then you can be sure that you are going to receive all of the tuition that you need.
The first of the days light over Dunstanburgh Castle which is one of the locations that is regularly visited during the Northumberland weekend workshops.
The workshops start at 6pm on the Friday evening which allows you plenty of time to travel to your chosen locations and get settled into you accommodation if you have booked a stay for the weekend. On the first evening we will be out for sunset depending on the time of year, before switching our attention to photographing the night skies. Saturday will be a full day of finding compositions at sunrise, during the day, sunset and we will also be out for the night skies again. We will also have time to edit your photographs where hints and tips will be given on how to get the most of our Photoshop and Lightroom. Sunday is another action packed day, with more opportunities to work on your photography skills before the course finishes around 3pm
The heather which blooms over the North York Moors during the summer months is a firm favourite of visiting clients.
Weekend workshops for 2021 will be based either in Helmsley, on the edge off the North York Moors National Park or in Alnwick, Northumberland which is a great base to explore all that the Northumberland Coastline has to offer. I grew up in Northumberland and know the area around Alnwick like back of my hand. Not only will we explore some of the more well know locations but I am able to take you too some of the lesser known areas which will allow you see and photograph from a perspective that few tourists ever do. Not to mention knowing which locations work best in which conditions. There will also be the opportunity to visit the Farne Islands during breading season where thousands of Puffins, Razorbills and various species of Terns to name but a few can be seen. On the darkest of nights the Milkyway is a delight to photograph and later on in the year, the elusive Northern Lights can make an appearance.
Bamburgh Castle is an iconic location on the Northumberland Coast. You have to be up early to see it at its best, but when the light is good and there is nobody else around it is an amazing place.
I have lived in Helmsley for the last 10 years and once again I have extensive knowledge of the North York Moors, knowing where and when to visit specific places to maximise your photography enjoyment. The moors provide a stunning backdrop of any photograph as does the Yorkshire coast, with its rugged coastline and coastal villages. Once again there are amazingly dark skies across the moors making it an ideal location to practise and develop your dark skies knowledge, with the Milkyway, Constellations making great subjects. During the summer months, rare Noctilucent Clouds can been seen and in from September through until March, the Northern Lights are again a possibility.
The Northern Lights over the beach huts in Whitby. The natural phenomena which is the Aurora Borealis can be photographed a few times a year and on very rare occasions seen by the naked eye.
The weekend workshops are priced at £125 per person and offer exceptional value for money. As previously mentioned, I limit all of my workshops to a maximum of 4 clients. There are 3 reasons for this this. Firstly, I want all of my clients to have a fantastic experience and leave of the Sunday evening having learnt new skills, Any more than 4 clients and I don't believe this is possible. Secondly it allows us to visit locations where everyone can photograph safely and are not fighting to get the best compositions. Believe me I have seen groups of up of 12 people with one instructor and I do wonder what sort of an experience they are having. Finally, it allows us to travel all together in one car ( covid permitting ) which not only adds to the camaraderie of the group and forms last friendships but it also lessens the environmental impact on the places that we visit.
As you can image these workshops sell out very quickly so please use the form below to indicate which workshop you would like to attended. In 2o22 I am running 6 workshops from Helmsley and 4 from Alnwick.
